Little bluebells

So I’ve been a bit quiet on here and social media - but that’s part of my creative process. I get into a pattern or item I’m making and get my head down and sucked into the creative process. Too creative and too busy to post as the I become so absorbed. And my inspirations often hits me at unexpected times - like just before I got to sleep 😴
I love spring flowers. Especially that shot of purple from crocus flowers and blue from little grape hyacinths aka muscari. Also known as little bluebells (just me when I was a kid?)

Muscari crochet patterns just don’t exist. I can’t find an easy crochet pattern which doesn’t require a 0.5mm crochet hook and sewing thread (and a microscope) so I do what I do best, scratch my head and decide I want to make one myself.

So I started with trying puff stitch or bobble stitches and they didn’t work out too well. Too chunky and it didn’t capture the tiny bells which muscari are known for.
Then I got one of my ‘just before I fall asleep’ flashes of inspiration. Thanks brain! I tried a variation of crochet and sewing blended together and it looked way better.

But it needed fine tuning. The colour was off as was my stitch making. I couldn’t find the perfect bluebell colour anywhere. You name it and I tried it - Ricorumi, Paintbox Cotton DK, Yarn and Colours Favourite, Stylecraft Classique. Nada. Nothing online has that creamy blend of blue and purple.

Then another pre-sleep brain flash. I already had that colour stashed but it wasn’t 100% cotton. I tried it anyway. It was PERFECT. Thanks to Drops Cotton Light in shade Blue Bonnet. It is awesome. Off to make more muscari tonight!
